Wet Windshield

Some people tinker with photoshop to make images look like they're being viewed through a rainy windshield. I do it the old fashioned way - with a rainy windshield.

Nick's Bread

Rainy Night in Butchertown

View from Bakery Square's Roof

Guess I'll start up Unusual Kentucky's "High Views" tag here too. This is looking out across Bakery Square's rooftop towards downtown, just as the sun's coming up.

Pink Floyd Mural

I've always wondered what motivated someone to paint the prism from the cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon on the side of their garage.

The Art of Sculpting My Baby

I'm going to have nightmares about this, I just know it.

Captain's Cellar

Whenever I go in the Captain's Cellar, the Captain always peers at me through a spyglass and bellows:

"Ahoy there, ye blasted landlubber! You are a sneaking puppy, and so are all those who will submit to be governed by laws which rich men have made for their own security; for the cowardly whelps have not the courage otherwise to defend what they get by knavery; but damn ye altogether: damn them for a pack of crafty rascals, and you, who serve them, for a parcel of hen-hearted numbskulls. They vilify us, the scoundrels do, when there is only this difference: They rob the poor under the cover of law, forsooth, and we plunder the rich under the protection of our own courage."

The Captain's parrot, who wears Full Service Dress Blue and operates the cash register with his beak, hurls a litany of colorful obscenities and antiquated insults at you as you buy your bottle of Canadian Club.

Okay, I'm totally making this up, I've actually never been in here, but this is really damn fine coffee.

Meat Light

One of the nice light fixtures at Meat (the secret bar above the Blind Pig.) View another one here.

"Turn on Your Meat Light" is my favorite lost Neil Diamond song.

Empty Christmas Tree Stand

Couple nights ago, by the riverside, I wandered by this stand that apparently sells Christmas trees and wreaths (little early ain't it?), but was devoid of product. I guess they pack it all up each night and stash it somewhere, then haul it all out again by daylight?

The Grey and Orange Building at Night

You know, this place on the corner of Campbell and Main. Seems someone's moved in there now.

Smokey & the Bandit

A "Smokey & the Bandit" cocktail at The Blind Pig in Butchertown, made with smoked sugar and two kinds of mezcal.

Krampus Snackin'

Looks like I'm performing sedation dentistry on him, but actually he's frantically licking a chunk of Thanksgiving turkey.

SIlver Dollar Neon Sign

I was already excited about a new bar moving into the newly-remodeled Albert A. Stoll Firehouse in Louisville, but I'm twice as excited to see that they've managed to come up with a new neon sign that looks absolutely, jaw-droppingly, 1948 authentic.
